Nice telephoto zoom lens for beginners, lack of IS is a minor inconvenience at best
I actually made a mistake and bought this without realizing it was refurbished, but it works perfectly and was about 60% cheaper than a new one. I'm almost 2 months into use and everything has worked really well. I do microstock photography and iStock has accepted many photos taken with this lens.Update: After another month of use I'm updating this review to discuss the lack of image stabilization. I haven't found camera shake to be an issue at all while shooting in the daylight. I've used this lens to take perfect images of birds from a long distance. I also recently did some sunset photography at the beach, although I used a tripod for that due to the low-light conditions (sorry about the lens flare but I uploaded all of the clean shots to iStock already). I haven't missed the lack of IS except when shooting in HDR.The autofocus, on the other hand, is a little slow, so it's not great for video or for getting long-range shots of a fast-moving target.Another Update: After more than a year of use, I'm reducing this to 4 stars now that I have upgraded to the Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 SP Di VC USD XLD and see a major difference. VC is Tamron's image stabilizer and it makes a massive difference. I almost never need the tripod during daylight. It's a heavier lens, but not having to carry the tripod around on hikes more than makes up for it. Also, the USD (USM on Canon lenses) is fast and accurate, so I actually use autofocus instead of always using manual like I did on the Canon EF 75-300 III. Finally, I love having full-time manual which allows me to fine-tune the focus using the focus ring without having to flip the switch from auto to manual. In short, the Canon EF 75-300 III is still a solid and affordable option for a beginner. You'll get a lot of practice with switching to manual focus and using a tripod. When you are ready to spend 5xs as much money on an infinitely better lens, check out my full review of the Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 SP Di VC USD XLD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Price For My Needs
Reviewed in the United States on September 14, 2018
I'm not a professional photographer, but I have my share of DSLR camera experience. What can I say? It's a lens. It arrived on time, packaged and in condition as promised. It honestly does not look reconditioned! I have a Canon Rebel T3 and it fits perfectly.
As for "lens motor noise" that some have reported, it sounds no different to me than any other lens of the type on any other camera. I also have a Nikon D5000 with a similar lens and compared the two - there is no difference.
I am perfectly satisfied with this purchase and feel absolutely comfortable recommending it to others.

First off, I watched reviews and people simply did not like the lack of image stabilization. I am way happy with this lens. For under a hundred dollars, who cares . Use the extra money on a tripod. This lens is awesome for the money. I can take good photos with it while hand holding but, I get even better photos with a tripod. I took this moon shot right after I got it. The image is cropped and the reds were exaggerated. Super blood wolf moon etc...

Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2018
Great quality product for such a low price. My husband helped find this lense and while I was skeptical, you really couldn’t beat the price. So I decided to give it a shot. I love it so much, the quality of this lense is phenomenal compared to just the one that came with my camera. I actually don’t like using that one even though it’d be easier to use for portraits. I’ll probably be ordering another lense if they offer other options
