A Farewell to Arms is a splendidly written book that will draw you deep into the story the entire way through. Hemmingway's simple yet powerful style of writing will bring you as close to the characters and events in a book as any ever will. The story is about a soldier and a nurse who meet during the war and fall in love. The characters are very human and easy to relate to. The characters go through some extremely dramatic experiences throughout the novel, but the beauty is that they are able to pull through them together and avert disaster many times. In doing, they develop a pure and true love that is completely unequaled in every way. This is a book not to be missed, however you should make a point to miss the final chapter. -Spoiler Warning- The ending is totally ridiculous, unnecessary, and depressing. The deaths that occur in the end are random, abrupt, and don't compliment the story properly. This book would be absolutely perfect if the last chapter was left out entirely and I would recommend you read the book in this way, ending at the second to last chapter. For this reason the book does not receive a perfect review.Read full review
This book is very very good. It is a story about an American in the Italian army and his love for a British nurse. They fall in love and get together. It shows the lengths people go to so that they can be together. The book is very descriptive and can almost make you feel like if you're in Italy during this time. I almost could not have put it down. The ending is also amazing as you experience a shocking twist. This book is a classic.
