Unlike Neil Gaiman's children books, "Neverwhere" is an adult book, and well written. It kept me interested all the way through. Richard Mayhew finds himself a "Non-person", after helping a bleeding woman lying unconscious on the sidewalk. He takes her home and allows her to stay there for several days, during her stay she speaks of strange things, sends a message to a rat via a wild pigeon, all while inside Richard's apt. People below ground are out to kill her, have attempted, but she got lucky and found a door, a door that left her lying on that sidewalk for Richard to find her. Incidently, that just happens to be her name, "Door". Now that Door was able to get help from a visit from a rat, which gives her instructions as to where to go and who she must see for help and safety, she leaves with Richards help. However, the next day, Richards life is no longer the same. He wakes to find he has overslept for work. He waves down cabs only to have them ignore him, people seem to not see him, he gets to work and his desk is empty and being moved to another location. His boss doesn't recognize him. At first he thinks it's a joke they're playing on him, but when he went to withdraw money from the ATM machine, it didn't recognize his card, he knew this was no longer a joke. He knows the answer to his problems lies with the woman named Door, he just helped. The story goes on a journey below London, where a whole different world exists, and Richard begins his odyssey to get his life back. Great story, loved it all the way through. Apparently it was a BBC program.Read full review
